Real Food Rookie

My mom has recently started a new blog to help herself, and others to start eating healthier. She has been researching healthy foods and recipes.

Get together with some friends and make a pact to eat healthy together! It’s much easier to accomplish goals when you have some fun competition with your friends to be healthier overall.

Stay healthy, stay happy, work together!

A microbrewery or craft brewery is a brewery that produces a limited amount of beer. Exact definitions vary, but the terms are typically applied to breweries that are much smaller than large-scale corporate breweries and are independently owned. Such breweries are generally characterized by their emphasis on flavor and brewing technique.

All along the eastern shore, microbreweries are beginning to really pop up and are becoming very prevalent along the coast. I have had the opportunity for the past year to work for the company, Evolution Craft Brewing Co. The culture of the microbreweries is really fascinating. All the little guys against the big dogs. The smaller brewing companies work together and support each other so that they can survive in this dog eat dog world.

Not only are the surrounding breweries a great community, but also the people that visit. They people that I serve are so interested in how the brewery started, how the beer is made, and even are interested about me as a person, not just another server at a corporate run restaurant. It’s really cool to watch as the small breweries work together to survive and I am lucky to be a part of it.

Family Teams

I had the opportunity to go home this weekend to visit my family. I am one of seven children and it is not often that all of us have the opportunity to be together. From ages 25-13, we all are unique but amazingly enough we all get along so well. Growing up, we were all homeschooled. My two older sisters were homeschooled through high school but I went to public high school. I feel very fortunate to have these years spent at home growing and spending time with my family.

Families are teams as well as any other group of people. You work together to keep the house clean, do the chores, and make sure everything that needs to be done to keep one another happy and healthy. Keeping everyone in positive spirits and working together to keep everyone in line is all apart of team work. Communication with plans, who gets to use the car when, activities, dinner times, everyone relies on communication.

This weekend was a great example of how my family worked as a team. I picked up my sister who doesn’t have a car in DC, one of my brothers picked up my other brother from practice and brought him to meet up with the rest of us at a fun little spot in Onley. We made the plans work because of our positive spirits, excitement to see each other and communication skills. All things that can keep teams going 🙂
